Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pound pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
- 4 cloves garlic, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh oregano, chopped
- 1 teaspoon crushed fennel seeds
- Pinch of chili flakes
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped pepperoncini peppers
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 1/2 cups cubed mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup cubed provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup cubed cheddar cheese
- 8 ounces pepperoni slices
- Honey, for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 500ยฐF and position the oven rack in the bottom half.
- Drizzle olive oil into a 9ร13-inch metal cake pan or a Detroit-style pizza pan. Add the pizza dough to the pan and gently stretch it out so that it almost reaches the edges. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- While the dough rests, combine the grated garlic, chopped basil, oregano, crushed fennel seeds, chili flakes, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir to mix evenly.
- After the dough has rested, gently press it to cover the entire pan. Layer half of the pepperoni slices on top, followed by the chopped pepperoncini. Spoon the marinara sauce over the top.
- Sprinkle half of the herb mixture over the sauce, and then add the cubed cheeses. Place the halved cherry tomatoes on top, followed by the remaining herb mixture and the rest of the pepperoni slices.
- Bake the pizza for 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is crispy. Once baked, use a spatula to loosen the edges and slide the pizza onto a cutting board. Slice into squares and serve, optionally drizzling with honey for a sweet contrast.
