Description
- Discover how to make Tater Tot Casserole with Ground Beef and Cheddar Cheese—an easy, delicious family favorite
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small yellow onion, diced (about ½ cup)
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese, divided
- 1 package (32 ounces) frozen tater tots
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- In a 12-inch oven-safe skillet, cook the ground beef and diced onions over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes, or until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft. Break up the meat as it cooks, and drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in the ketchup, chicken broth, brown sugar, yellow mustard, kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- Remove the skillet from the heat and evenly sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the beef mixture.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese. (You may not use the entire package depending on the size of your skillet.)
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is bubbly and the tater tots are golden and crispy.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots and return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley and serve hot.
