Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded Gouda cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Fontina cheese
  • 3 tablespoons chopped pepperoncini
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • Chili flakes, to taste
  • 14 ounces (or two 7.5-ounce jars) marinated artichokes, drained
  • Honey, for drizzling

Instructions

  • Preheat and Prepare
  • Preheat your oven to 425ยฐF (220ยฐC). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Assemble the Pastry
  • Gently roll out the puff pastry sheets to slightly stretch them. Place one sheet on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the edges with the beaten egg. Cut the second pastry sheet into four strips, each about 1/2 inch wide, and lay these along the edges of the first sheet to form a raised border. Press the edges gently to adhere. Brush the border with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds and a pinch of black pepper. Use a fork to prick the center area of the pastry.
  • Add Toppings
  • Inside the bordered area, evenly distribute the pepperoncini, basil, thyme, garlic, lemon zest, and a sprinkle of chili flakes. Layer the shredded cheeses on top, followed by the marinated artichokes. Drizzle a touch of honey over the toppings for a hint of sweetness. Place the tart in the freezer for 10 minutes to firm up before baking.
  • Bake to Perfection
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry turns golden brown and the cheese is bubbling and melted.
  • Serve and Enjoy
  • Remove the tart from the oven, let it cool slightly, and serve warm.
